About Us
Hopefully, this Web site will help students, teachers and schools to learn more about what it's like to be a learner abroad.
The author of this Web site, G. P. Smith, has been involved in teaching learners abroad for more than a decade. He has taught in A‐Level and IB programs for high school students, as well as joint‐degree programs for university students who will complete a program overseas. This has taught him about the problems such students face, not only as they study in their own country, but, even more critically, after they go abroad.
Previously, the author served for two years as a Peace Corps volunteer, working on a range of community development projects in Latin America. There, he learned first‐hand what it's like to live in a foreign country with limited support. That experience has been very helpful in teaching subjects such as geography, economics, business, history, and English to students who may someday study in another country.
The author has a bachelor's degree from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, and a master's degree from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles. He has also earned PGCE and TEFL certification. In fact, this Web site was created as part of one such course of study. Hopefully, it will help students, teachers, and schools to learn more about what it's like to be a learner abroad.
